CORNWALL, Ontario – Paramedics in Cornwall are getting a name change.

City council rubber-stamped a recommendation Monday night to change the name of the local agency to “Cornwall SDG Paramedic Service.”

The EMS component of the name is being dropped in favour of reflecting the new roles and responsibilities of paramedics, said department manager Myles Cassidy.

“It’s really due to the skillset of paramedics now,” he said. “We were referred to now as completing out-of-hospital care as opposed to pre-hospital care.”

Some $3,000 has been set aside for changing business cards and other items that display the paramedic service’s name.

Cassidy said big ticket items like vehicles and uniforms will have the name changed as they are retired from service or replaced.
