New health clinic in Alexandria

Work has begun on renovating a building on Anik Street in Alexandria to become a health care clinic.

The 3,000-square-foot space, which is owned by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, will offer a variety of health care services, including mental health and addiction care for youth, doctors’ offices and clinic space.

The EOHU is in discussions with multiple healthcare providers and agencies to determine the specific community needs and gaps and how the space will be best used. The hope is to take some of the pressure off the emergency department at Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital in Alexandria.

In addition, this location will aid in supporting the strategic plan for future pandemic preparedness.

Mobile unit

A mobile care unit is coming to SD&G, providing health and welfare services. The mobile health care unit is one of only three in the province of Ontario and is fully funded by the government. This initiative will be established for three years and will fill the gaps for health care and provide follow-up services to those released from hospitals or requiring care outside of a doctor’s office.
