CORNWALL, Ontario – Backa Yawd Caribbean Cuisine, a hot idea in Cornwall, is looking to spice things up.
The new restaurant spearheaded by Lee Theodore and Roger Caron will be featuring some of their sizzling dishes at two events this week in Cornwall that will benefit a local gardening and environmental group.
“Backa Yawd Caribbean Cuisine is the result of 10 years of conversations had over a many great meals. For the past eight months we have organized a few pop up dinners to test the viability of the idea in Cornwall,” said Theodore.
Backa Yawd can be described as a fusion of Haitian Heritage and Jamaican roots.
“We are currently working hard to secure a grant proposal through the local Economic Development Office working with Candy Pollard and are confident that this going to be a success for our local population. Our restaurant will be a one-of-a-kind outlet. In the meantime, we are still striving to capitalize on partnerships to showcase this food and offer it the general public,” said Theodore.
This Thursday, Jan. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bar Q, Backa Yawd will be offering a seven-item, in house table d’hote offering, with three take-home items and an in house friendly rib competition between the two eateries. Tickets are $50 at the door. RSVP required.
Proceeds from each ticket will go to Koz Roots.
On Jan. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. Backa Yawd will be at Spinners Diner offering a $15 sample menu to anyone who choose to stop in an try a few Caribbean dishes.
