SOUTH DUNDAS – The Municipality of South Dundas is excited to welcome acting Fire Chief Jeremy Alldred-Hughes to the team on a one-year contract commencing on June 26, 2023.

Alldred-Hughes has worked as both a career and volunteer firefighting over the past 14 years, serving with Kirkland Lake Fire Services and the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department. He is looking forward to starting a new professional chapter of his life closer to home with his family as they recently relocated to the area.

“I firmly believe that a strong fire department is built on a foundation of teamwork, mutual respect, and continuous improvement,” said Alldred-Hughes. “I am eager to work with such an amazing team and help to foster a culture of excellence within the South Dundas Fire & Emergency Services.”

“It’s paramount that each team member is supported, empowered, and equipped to fulfill their vital role in safeguarding our community.”

Alldred-Hughes said that his love for the job began in high school when he tried his hand at firefighting for a co-op course. After a few years away from his hometown, he returned and joined the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department. He said the rest is history.

“I knew from the moment I walked in the station,” he said.

Alldred-Hughes appreciates how his role allows him to give back to the community and help others, as well as be a part of a supportive team with ample comradery.

“Jeremy is a strong believer in customer service and an advocate for providing a proactive approach to Fire and Emergency Services…” said Kirkland Lake Fire Services Platoon Chief Elise Belanger. “Without reservation, I am confident that Jeremy will excel at any opportunity he is given.”

Alldred-Hughes has a proven track record in supervising fire ground operations in a safe and effective manner. He is well versed in the Ontario Fire Code and Fire Safety Policies. Previously, he has developed fire prevention programs and department budgets, and has served as a teacher and mentor to other firefighters.

“The position of Fire Chief is fundamental to providing effective leadership and morale for the South Dundas Fire and Emergency Services,” said Mayor Broad.

“I am very excited to see Alldred-Hughes join our team. He has strong leadership qualities and experience, including working as the Town of Kirkland Lake’s Community Emergency Management Coordinator. But most importantly, he has an evident passion for the job and for community involvement.”
