New York State, Akwesasne police team up to investigate suspicious death

CORNWALL, Ontario – Police in Akwesasne are investigating a suspicious death weeks after beginning a murder investigation.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service released information Tuesday regarding the death of a woman in TsiSnaihne, Que.

Officers had been dispatched to the home to check on the welfare of a woman on Oak Court and found her dead.

Police have not released the woman’s name, but are treating her death with suspicion.

The New York State police is assisting Akwesasne Mohawk Police with its investigation. Police ask anyone with information to call them at 613-575-2340 or anonymously via Akwesasne Crime Stoppers at 613-575-2255.

Last month 61-year-old David “Tawit” Benson Hopps was found dead at a residence on Cornwall Island. Rachel Bertha Fenn, 39, and Christopher Philip Baldwin, 31, have been charged with murder in relation to that incident.
