NO TITLE FOR TONY: Luis loses hard-fought battle for world lightweight title
Tony Luis

CORNWALL, Ontario – Despite a valiant effort, Tony Luis came up short in his desire to become the WBA World Lightweight champion.

Luis lost a unanimous decision to Derry Matthews in Liverpool, England, 114-112, 114-112 and 115-112.

“I think I could have done more. Derry did what he had to do. Tonight he boxed a good fight,” Luis told Boxnation TV after the fight.

Despite the unanimous decision Luis fought valiantly.

“What a war that was, fair play to Tony Luis his all action style helped to make that one of the best fights in the UK this year so far,” Tweeted Frank Warren.

Other online pundits had praise for the Cornwall brawler.

“There will be plenty who felt Luis — the more aggressive of the two and surely the one who threw the more punches — should have got the decision in the end. At the very least he’s put himself in with a chance of another trip to the UK to take on some other British lightweights,” said Rob Lancaster at bleacherreport.com.
