ONLINE RECORD CHECKS: Cornwall police now offer quicker service

CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall police have unveiled a new online feature that allows residents to order background checks they can use to help secure employment and volunteer positions.

The public will be able to request a police record check by filling out electronic forms available at www.cornwallpolice.com.

A credit card will be required to pay for the service.

Police chief Dan Parkinson said the feature has been a long time coming, and will help add efficiencies at the police station.

“Sometimes it can take between six and eight weeks for a record check to come back,” he said. “That’s a long time to wait if you need it for a new job.”

Parkinson said the online record check should return results in as little as three to five days.

“This will also help us manage the walk-in traffic at the front lobby,” he said.

A record check can be filed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There will be a nominal processing fee of $9.95 over and above the costs of the police information check.
