CORNWALL, Ontario – A popular outdoor street hockey tournament is taking on a different look this fall.

Santa’s Street Hockey challenge, which goes Nov. 21, will still feature plenty of stick work, sharp-shooting and sprawling saves, but the location is moving to Montreal Road from Pitt Street.

Organizer Robin McIntosh said the Montreal Road from McConnell to Baldwin Avenue will be closed to allow for wall-to-wall street hockey.

“We’re also going to fence it off,” he said.

The move to Montreal Road allows for more room to operate the growing event, and alleviates concerns about the slope of the street on Pitt.

Also new this year is a school challenge for both a junior and senior division. The top schools from each division that enter the most teams, show the most sportsmanship and show the most spirit will be awarded $500 each.

“It has nothing to do with scores,” said McIntosh.

All the information needed to submit a team can be found at sshc.weebly.com.

“Any money we get from sponsors, that goes beyond covering our costs, will be donated to charity,” said McIntosh.

TC Media is a proud sponsor of the event.
