CORNWALL, Ontario – A petition to keep train whistles blasting through the city was received by city council Monday night.

Staff are expected to include the petition, along with another document signed by people who want the whistles stopped at the Tollgate Road CN crossing, in a report on the matter to come at a later date.

Nearly 100 people have signed a petition asking that city council stop the whistles, while Kisa Lanctot has filed a document in opposition to that move.

She said in an interview recently about 140 names were included in a hard copy of the petition filed at city hall, while the online version has more than 150.

“What I’ve heard from people is that they support the petition and want to keep the whistle,” she said.
