CORNWALL, Ontario – Leadership at the Cornwall Community Police Service have locked up new contracts.

Both chief Dan Parkinson and deputy chief Danny Aikman have signed deals that will take them through to 2019.

The new contracts, which come into effect Jan. 1, 2016, include some fairly weighty pay hikes that will be tied to how much negotiated settlements are worth concerning Cornwall police inspectors.

Aikman will make about 13 per cent more than an inspector according to the new deal, while Parkinson will get 10 per cent more than Aikman, confirmed police board chair Pat Finucan.

“Both parties have some degree of certainty for the length of the new contracts,” he added.

Parkinson rakes in more than $160,000 a year, while Aikman’s salary is measured just shy of $150,000.

As for Cornwall’s police inspectors and others included in a small bargaining unit consisting of about half a dozen senior officers and managers, their new contract talks will begin in January.

Finucan confirmed the contract governing those individuals will expire at the end of this year. The contract will continue to govern both sides until a new deal is reached.
