CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Motor Speedway is gearing up to be a driving force in the fight against cancer.
The Race for the Cure Sportsman Series, including two 100-lap distance features and one 75-lap race, will be part of the track’s season opener on Sunday, May 15.
“Some exciting news about this new series is that it will be part of another busy schedule for 2016 at the speedway,” said Martin Belanger, communications director.
Race car driver Steve Morris approached Cornwall Motor Speedway promoter Raymond Lavergne at the end of the 2015 season about collecting funds for local families affected by cancer.
And Lavergne immediately accepted.
The second race will run on Sunday, July 10, with a 75-lap event. The champion will be crowned on Sunday, August 7.
Each race winner will receive $2,000 during the 100-lap events and $1,500 during the 75-lap.
“Management is currently putting the final touches on a schedule that should count 18 events,” said Belanger.
An announcement will be made in the coming weeks.
