Severe thunderstorm watch issued for region
Weather today includes the possibility of thundestorms.

UNITED COUNTIES of SD&G, Ontario – Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Alexandria and Maxville.

As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, thunderstorms had begun throughout most of theSeaway News readership area. The storms are expected to be especially strong for North Glengarry.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” the statement from Environment Canada reads. “Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall,” the statement continues.

The rain and thunderstorms in Cornwall are expected to continue into the early evening.
