MAXVILLE, Ontraio – The third year of K9 Sports Fest has been a success with nearly 1, 100 dogs on the Maxville Fair Grounds this year.

Dan Santoro, who organized the event this year along with his wife Erica Anderson said that he noticed more competitors this year and more spectators in the crowd.

He also explained that a guiding principal for K9 Sports Fest has been sustainability and the health of pets.

“We are a little selective with our vendors,” he said. “We are looking for vendors who are environmentally friendly, have healthy ingredients and we like to support local.”

Two new events this year were the Canicross, where the owner and their pet are tied together and have to run and keep pace with one another, and a small dog race where only dogs big enough to fit through a hole at the end of the track could compete.

K9 Sports Fest also has a unique and smart way of making sure that the Maxville Fair Grounds stay beautiful, the Sports Fest has a Poop Depot.  Every time a bag of dog poop is deposited at the Poop Depot, the person who dropped the bag off gets entered into a raffle for a prize.
