ONTARIO, Canada – Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group held their second annual Common Kindness Day across Ontario on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

As a part of the Common Kindness Day, Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group pre-paid for 1,000 coffees or teas in 10 coffee shops across Ontario. Each shop had 100 coffees to give away, which could turn into more as customers were encouraged to pay-it-forward by buying the coffee for the person behind them, and keeping the ball of kindness rolling.

“Everyone who receives a free beverage is encouraged to find a way to pay that small kindness forward – treat another stranger to their cup of coffee, or find some other way to make someone’s day a little brighter,” Commonwell stated in a media release. “Whatever people choose to do, we only hope that they do it with kindness.”

Tim Shauf, President and CEO of The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group, explained that Commonwell hoped to promote more community bonds and neighbourly spirit through this program.

“We created Common Kindness Day because we firmly believe in the kindness of strangers and the importance of creating strong community bonds,” said Shauf. “Last year, the kindness of residents in all of these Ontario towns blew us away and kept the Common Kindness Day spirit of paying it forward going long after our event.”

The Quirky Carrot in Alexandria was the coffee shop in the United Counties of SD&G that participated in the event this year.
