LUNENBURG, Ontario – Dan Shaver, of the Krazy Dan’s corner store in Lunenburg is getting a chance to show off his renowned wieners on a national stage.

Shaver has been invited to pitch his business model to the Dragons of Dragons’ Den. His audition is in Kingston on Feb. 23 and Shaver is excited just for the opportunity.

Shaver has been in business for five years, but it was only since this past Fall that he has really started to produce his wieners on an industrial scale.

He completed work on a new factory on the same property as the corner store and after getting the seal of approval from the health inspector, Shaver began to pickle his wieners, which has always been a passion of his.

Shaver’s passion for the wieners comes from his youth. He has always lived in Lunenburg and growing up there was a local named John Hough who had legendary spicy wieners. Shaver wants to carry on that legacy and tradition in Lunenburg.

“My mission is to make Lunenburg known for its pickled wieners,” he said in an interview over the summer. “So I would like to thank everyone that has been buying pickled wieners. You are helping to keep the legacy alive.”

Krazy Dan’s Pickled Products has been registered as its own company and the wieners are now in 50 stores in the local area, but also Ottawa. Shaver has sold 2,400 jars of pickled wieners since November.
