Dangerous driver stopped in South Glengarry

SOUTH GLENGARRY, Ontario – On Oct. 10, 2018 at approximately 2:28 p.m., Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on County Rd. 25, South Glengarry Township. The vehicle failed to comply with the request and continued on. The driver attempted to strike police with his vehicle and fled the area. No injuries were suffered by officers.

On Oct. 11, 2018 SD&G OPP located Norman Bankley, 58 of North Glengarry, Ontario and was arrested and is charged with:

– Flight while pursued by peace officers

– Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle

– Fail to Comply with conditions of a probation order (two counts)

– Assault Peace officer while threatening to use a weapon

– Assault with intent to resist arrest

– Drive while ability impaired – motor vehicle

He was held in custody (bail) and is scheduled to appear in Cornwall court.
