SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – Bryan McGillis has been elected Mayor in South Stormont.

McGillis had previously served as Mayor of South Stormont from 2006-2014. He was defeated for re-election by Jim Bancroft in 2014. Bancroft decided not to seek re-election this time around.

McGillis ran against Deputy Mayor Tammy  and Chris Bonneville on a platform of transparency.

“As head of council I will improve communications to the ratepayers by asking the media to be present again,” McGillis said in a written statement. “I will encourage council to allow the head person of each department to make reports at all council meetings which is no longer happening.”

For Deputy Mayor, Hart will be replaced by Councillor David Smith, who ran against Councillor Richard Waldroff.

For the Council positions, Jennifer MacIsaac, Cindy Woods and Andrew Guindon won positions around the table. Councillor Donna Primeau did not win re-election.
