CORNWALL, Ontario – The best way to raise funds for a good cause in Canada is to host a hockey tournament of course.

That is exactly what Allister McDonell and Colton Gallant did this weekend.

At the Paul Rozon ice rink in Williamstown, Ontario, McDonell, and Gallant gathered hockey players, bands, a bar, and a number of prizes to raise funds for the Jillian Mclaughlin Foundation and Beyond Twenty one.

“There are people from all over; Casselman, Cornwall, Williamstown, Alexandria. It’s a good time,” explained Colton.

The tournament held 15 teams and came close to three hundred people coming out to the event.

Allister McDonell and Colton Gallant each organized separate tournaments in previous years but decided to team up to hold one massive fundraiser.

“Were ready to play some hockey for hearts!” said Ryan Deschamps, a participant in the tournament.

Some of the prizes that were available to be won through a silent auction included gas cards, Oakley sunglasses, and gift cards to around 56 businesses within the area.

“We just want to emphasize how amazing the community has been and everyone that has come out to support the event in the last year,” said Colton.

They couldn’t have done it without the help of the Williamstown ice rink and approximately 40 volunteers.

Last year the tournament came close to $7,500 donated but this year they hope to raise $10,000 .

The event attracted the attention of hockey enthusiasts and of anyone looking for a warm bowl of chili or a cold beer complimented by a plethora of entertainment.
