MAXVILLE, Ontario – The Glengarry Highland Games are on-track for another great year.

As always, the Games will be the first weekend of August, which this year is the 3 & 4.

“We are definitely moving forward to have a great 71st edition of the Highland Games,” said Glengarry Highland Games President Lindsay MacCulloch.

Favourite events like the Pipe Band competition will be back and bigger than ever, according to MacCulloch. MacCulloch explained that since the Pipe Band will not fall on the same weekend as the international competition in Scotland, that more bands should be in attendance this year.

The Games have also changed the location of the Kilt Run this year to grow the event and make it the biggest kilt run yet. Registration for the Kilt Run opens in early April.

The Games will also be holding kickoff events in the days before the official opening this year.

Kickoff events include a golf tournament on Aug. 1 and a Tartan Ball on Aug. 2. The Tartan Ball will be taking place at the Metcalfe Centre with tickets going on sale in May.

Patron Packages for the Glengarry Highland Games are now available on their website and sales for camping sites with electrical outlets will be available April 3.

Earlier in March, the Kingston Police released information about a Maxville woman who had allegedly stolen $600,000 from her employer to payback money she had allegedly lost local non-profits. There was a concern that one of the non-profits affected was the Glengarry Highland Games, while MacCulloch did not confirm if the Games is one of the local non-profits affected, MacCulloch did state that the Games could not comment on an ongoing investigation.

The Kingston Police did not release the name of the accused in this matter.
