ONTARIO- Environment Canada issued a weather advisory at 11:29 a.m. on Saturday, July 28 stating that funnel clouds are possible today.

This alert pertained to the following areas: Cornwall, Lancaster, Maxville, Alexandria, Morrisburg, Long Sault, Winchester and Newington.

The advisory states that along with funnel clouds, thunderstorms can produce pea sized hale and wind gusts up to 70 km per hour.

“These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms,” said the Environment Canada advisory. “This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.”
