CORNWALL, Ontario – Salvage plans are still being finalized for a pair of tugboats that capsized in Cornwall a week ago.
The Lac Manitoba and LCM131 capsized in the St. Lawrence River June 22 and despite initial concerns that an environmental disaster might be in the cards, fuel has remained largely within the tanks of both vessels.
The Canadian Coast Guard last week kept the area secure for marine traffic and was monitoring the site of the incident for pollution.
There has been no announcement yet concerning plans to salvage the vessels. Any salvage plan requires the assent of both the coast guard and Transport Canada.
More to come.
