CORNWALL, Ontario – A pair of schools in Williamstown were placed on lockdown Tuesday after a woman was spotted walking through the village carrying a pellet gun.

Williamstown Public School and Char-Lan District High School were locked down for less than an hour after police swarmed into the village following a report that an individual was spotted by residents.

Police said the woman had caused damage at the Williamstown Fairgrounds to windows and screens, presumably from firing the weapon.

Samantha McGibbon, 42, of South Glengarry Township was charged with mischief over $5,000, careless use of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

None of the charges against her have been proven.
