CORNWALL, Ontario – This year’s Shop the Blocks was one for the books according to Chris Munro, owner of Life’s Little Pleasures. The event ran from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

“It was the best ever,” she said. “Every year we always have our list of participants…but this year the stores and merchants were engaging the customers a lot; more people got on board and were actively promoting this year.”

“This year, the restaurants really stepped up,” added Munro.

The annual event, which celebrates downtown businesses and showcases merchants’ newest collections, encourages community members to shop and think local. Munro said that her store was filled to the brim between 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., similar to what she has heard from the owners of Kids Korner and Crush Lane.

Munro noticed that more couples were out and about during the evening this year, thinking that community members may have made a date night out of the event.

In previous years, Munro held a private, seasonal gathering, but eventually opened it to the public to coincide with similar events downtown.

Munro said that many storefronts showcased seasonal items for the fall and winter months.

“It’s great when everyone can pull together and it’s encouraging when nights like that happen; it shows community support,” said Munro.
