CORNWALL, Ontario – A veteran of Cornwall policing and helping local Special Olympians has been named the Seaway City’s 43rd Citizen of the Year.
Sgt. Brian Snyder was awarded the coveted honour Saturday night at a gala during the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business Excellence Awards.
“The Citizen of the Year is bestowed on an individual whose selfless commitment to his community has made Cornwall a better place to work and to live,” said chamber executive manager Lezlie Strasser. “Sgt. Snyder is the 43rd person to be so honoured and his contribution to our community has ranged from children in need, the Special Olympics, and to the region’s largest health care facility.”
Along with the Citizen of the Year, Strasser notes there were a number of business awards presented.
“The awards are given to selected businesses and industries whose commitment to excellence help the local economy to grow and flourish.”
Awards included:
- Entrepreneur – Robert Prowse, Chesley’s Inn
- Ambassador – Tom Everson
- Small Business – Kid’s Korner, Kevin and Leslie Ouderkirk
- Above and Beyond – Chris Munro, Life’s Little Pleasures
- Business – Tri-Star Construction, J. C. Godard
- Economic Impact – Evotech Corp.
- Lifetime Business Achievement – Gerald Lefebvre
Close to 250 of Cornwall’s leading business professionals were guests at glittering black-and-white affair to salute their professional peers.
This year the chamber celebrates its 125th anniversary. The Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, established in 1890, is one of Ontario’s oldest business associations with close to 700 members.
“There are a number of 125th anniversary events planned for this years and the awards banquet is the chamber’s first such event,” said Strasser.
