Social services becomes one-stop shop in Winchester

CORNWALL, Ontario – A counties Ontario Works office is changing locales at the beginning of April.

The Chesterville office of the social service agency is closing effective March 24 and will reopen in Winchester April 1.

The new address is 530 Fred St., Suite G4 – a building owned by the Winchester District Memorial Hospital which also includes a counselling and support services agency as a tenant.

Larry MacDonell, a program supervisor with the city’s social services department – which administers Ontario Works throughout the United Counties – said the move is important because a slew of support agencies can be found nearby.

“It was nice in Chesterville, but clients had to travel a long distance to go where the other agencies are,” he said. “So now it will be great because they can walk from our office.”

MacDonell said the move has created a kind-of one-stop shop for clients who may also have to visit the nearby offices of Jobzone, Community Care Access Centre, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit and the Glengarry Inter-Agency Group.

Not to mention the hospital itself.
