Parks and Recreation Master Plan
Council received a presentation from Mehak, Kelly and Associates on the recently completed Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The master plan provides recommendations regarding recreation programs, activities and events, facilities and parks and trail development over the next 10 years. The presentation addressed community context, stakeholder input and broader trends that assess local needs. The presentation also included recommendations for new/improved services and the role of the Township in facilitating recreation opportunities.
Cornwall Electric LED Streetlight Conversion
The Township and Cornwall Electric have discussed the conversion of the streetlights in South Glengarry currently owned by Cornwall Electric to LED fixtures for many years. Cornwall Electric has agreed to sell their 372 streetlights to the Township, which will then be converted to LED models. This switch will save over 74% in energy per year. The current streetlights are very expensive to maintain and the cost is rising due to inflation and labour costs. With the anticipated savings the LED models would provide, the money required for the conversion will be replenished in just three years!
Design Award – Glen Walter Water Tower
Council agreed to enter an agreement with Ainley & Associates Limited to provide Engineering Services for a Water Tower and Watermain Design. The Glen Walter Water Treatment Plan requires rehabilitation of the existing reservoir with a new and elevated water storage tank (water tower) with new pumps, as well as replacement of 4,000 meters of existing watermains. Ainley & Associates Limited presented a strong technical submission with demonstrated experience across Ontario with the planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure for treatment, distribution, and collection. Ainley & Associates Limited has the corporate experience and individual knowledge to complete this project successfully. Furthermore, they have the capacity to undertake this design work within the compressed schedule required to meet the funding deadlines.
