LANCASTER, Ontario – A firefighter with South Glengarry Fire Services was seriously injured this morning while responding to a single-vehicle accident in the westbound lane of Highway 401 Saturday morning.
The firefighter was the only occupant of a fire truck tanker that rolled over as a result of the poor weather conditions.
“The road conditions were very slippery this morning, causing the fire truck tanker from Station 4 in Lancaster to roll over while responding to an accident along Highway 401,” said Fire Chief Vic Leroux. “The firefighter involved in the accident was operating the tanker and was the only occupant of the vehicle.”
The firefighter is being treated in Ottawa and his condition is now stable.
“On behalf of the Township of South Glengarry, our thoughts are with the firefighter and his family at this time,” said Mayor Ian McLeod. “We are wishing him a full and quick recovery and thank all of our Fire Department for their dedication to keeping our residents and community safe.”
