SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – Nearly 140 invited guests enjoyed a ‘Night in Morocco’ themed Volunteer Appreciation Gala at South Stormont Community Hall on Friday, April 12.

“This gala is an opportunity for Council to express the appreciation for all the volunteer efforts that every one of these organizations provide to our community,” said South Stormont Mayor Bryan McGillis, in a press release. “We can only say thank you and hope that they will continue to do the work that they do for many more years. We understand that many of our residents rely on their efforts.”

Each guest represented one of 22 separate volunteer organizations that service residents who live in South Stormont.

Community member Kenneth (Ken) McDonald was recognized as the 2018 recipient of the Fran Laflamme Award as South Stormont Volunteer of the Year. His long list of volunteer efforts include, but are not limited to, affiliation with the Stormont Country Fair, Volunteer Fire Department, Cornwall Township Historical Society, the St. Andrews Church and Knights of Columbus. McDonald has also served on a variety of farming related associations.

McDonald is a recognized resident of St. Andrews West as he operated one of the larger producers of maple syrup in Eastern ON, as well as a successful dairy farm.
