Spring show in full bloom at civic complex

CORNWALL, Ontario – After rebuilding one of Cornwall’s oldest businesses, Source Wood 2014 co-owner Troy Brownell is planting new roots at the annual Spring Home and Leisure Show.

The 38-year-old Long Sault resident is an exhibitor at the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce three-day event to announce his brand new company with historic local ties is very much in business.

Brownell and lifelong friend Derek Korac re-opened Source Wood Products once it closed in October 2014, after being in operation for 40 years.

“The show is going excellent. It benefits me to stand here and let everyone see the name,” said Brownell. “The original owners did such a great job with the business. It’s all the same – it’s just two people retired and two young guys came in. We do anything wood – that’s the truth.”

While he spoke to eventgoers at the civic complex about a gorgeous piece of sapele wood, a large sign behind read: “YES!!! We survived the fire & auction.”

“There was a fire at the cotton mill, but the original owners moved Source Wood before that happened. There was also a big article about a going out business auction, but right before it my partner and I bought what we wanted. We had the media blowing the business down before we could get it going again,” said Brownell.

Lezlie Strasser, chamber commerce executive director, said the three-day event, which ends today at 6 p.m. and runs Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., boasts nearly local 100 exhibitors.

“You don’t need to travel out of town to get the latest in home and garden products and services or the knowledge to install them, it’s all here,” said Strasser.
