CORNWALL, Ontario – A Quebec man has been charged after a dog was left inside a locked car at Upper Canada Village.

Police were called to the popular tourist site on Sunday after the animal was reported in distress. OPP said the temperature Sunday produced “suffocating heat.”

Frederic Nadeau, 78, of Laval, Que. was arrested and is charged with causing damage or injury – failure to exercise reasonable care of an animal.

He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Morrisburg on Oct. 13, 2015.

“Leaving your pet unattended in a vehicle is one of the most irresponsible decisions a pet owner can make,” said OSPCA Insp. Steve Toy. “Your pet’s safety is your responsibility. Placing them in a dangerous environment could not only be harmful, it could result in the animal owner being charged as well as being fatal to the animal.”

In this case the animal was rescued and returned to the owner.
