Alexandria, Ontario – Baubles, bangles and beads will be trading briskly at the annual Glengarry Child Haven Dinner to be held at the Glengarry Sports Palace on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016. The jewellery, along with other unique artifacts from Nepal, India, Tibet and Bangladesh will be sold in a Silent and Live Auction, as well as at the Bazaar Table. Proceeds will help support the nine Child Haven homes in those countries.
The mysterious East theme will continue with guests being greeted by candlelit sari-draped tables and Eastern décor. The dinner begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by an authentic Thai dinner served at 7 p.m. Broadcaster and journalism professor Scott Hannant will MC the event, aided by Kinnon Lajoie. North Glengarry Councillor Brian Caddell and his wife, Elizabeth, a music teacher, will provide live entertainment.
Child Haven International was founded by Maxville area residents Bonnie and Fred Cappuccino in 1985. Today Child Haven runs a network of nine children’s homes serving about 1, 110 children, as well as supporting 150 women and 50 seniors in need and without families.
“A focus of this year’s fundraising will be the $12, 000 needed to buy 20 computers for the school in Nepal,” says Glengarry Dinner co-chair Julie Slater. “The school is expanding its curriculum to Grade Twelve, so the computers are urgently needed.”
Bonnie and Fred’s grandchildren, Katarina and Kynon Cappuccino will recount their experiences volunteering with Child Haven in 2015, when they accompanied their grandmother on one of her frequent visits. As well, Bonnie and Fred will give a brief overview of all the homes’ activities.
Tickets for the evening are now on sale for $45 per person or $320 for a table of eight and must be bought by Saturday, Oct. 22. The price includes the buffet dinner, dessert and coffee with a cash bar.
