CORNWALL, Ontario – Ontario will elect a new legislature on June 7, but advanced voting is already open in Cornwall.
The candidates for the electoral district of Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry include:
· Marc Beniot (Onario NDP/NPD)
· Elaine Kennedy (Green Party of Ontario)
· Jim Mcdonell (PC Party of Ontario)
· Heather Megill (Ontario Liberal Party)
· Sabile Trimm (Libertarian)
Nominations closed at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018.
To vote, names must be on the Voters List. With e-registration, applicants can check and see who is on the list. If desired anyone can add himself or herself to the list or update their information on the Elections Ontario website. Anyone who is apart of this list will get a Notice of Registration Card in the mail before the Election Day, which will say where to vote. Desired voters can also vote on Election Day, or at an advance poll before the election or by special ballot, which can be done by mail, or at a local office.
Those who are willing to travel to Cornwall can vote early at the local returning office at 1400 Vincent Massey Dr.
The writ was read at the returning office on May 17 by Town Crier Wes Libbey.
Advanced voting polling places open in other areas starting May 26 and will continue to May 30. These places include:
· Nav Centre
· Glengarry Outreach Seniors Services
· Immanuel Christian Reformed Church
· Moose Creek Firehall
· North Dundas Township Hall
· The Local Elections Office
Documents required to vote include one document that has name, address and signature or two separate documents that have name and signature, and name and address. All voters must meet certain expectations to be eligible, this criteria includes being old than 18 of age, being a Canadian citizen and being a resident of Cornwall, an owner or tenant of property in Cornwall.
