TRAGIC TURN: Alexander Lazore’s battle with cancer comes to an end

CORNWALL, Ontario – A baby boy who inspired thousands of social media posts and found the strength to battle against a brain tumour in spite of his age has succumbed to cancer.

Alexander Lazore, who at barely more than a year of age was diagnosed with a stage four brain tumour, passed away Friday morning, according to a social media post by his mother Britney Truelove.

“He is gone to heaven to watch over his family and friends,” she said. “He put on one strong fight and I’m so proud of him.”

Tributes for the little fellow have been pouring in through social media.

“Alex definitely stole all our hearts this past year with his bravery and strength and handsomeness,” said Krista Ward in a Facebook submission. “My heart is aching for you.”

Baby Alex was dubbed ‘The Warrior’ because of his tenacity in fighting the cancer that ravaged his little body. Doctors had told his mother in the spring of 2015 that the cancer was inoperable, but that didn’t stop Truelove and Alex from rallying to fight until the end.

“Alex was strong, he was a Rocky Balboa,” said Luc Marion in another online tribute. “You have shown the world how to be strong and how to take care of things when life gets difficult.”

Alex spent more time in hospital rooms than his own bedroom in recent months, undergoing a battery of tests, procedures and treatments including chemo therapy and radiation to keep the tumour at bay.

He recently split time between CHEO in Ottawa and a Montreal hospital while undergoing treatments.

Through it all his mother was by his side, often posting social media pictures of her son, smiling in spite of his condition.

Things took a downward turn in recent weeks when doctors conceded there was nothing more they could do for the little fellow.

“They usually don’t do chemo when they’re less than three years old,” Truelove told Seaway News in a previous interview. “But this is his only chance.”

Fundraisers were held throughout the year for Alex and his family.

More to come.
