LONG SAULT, Ontario – A tractor-trailer has flipped onto its roof west of Cornwall on Highway 401, forcing traffic on the busy provincial thoroughfare down to one lane.

Witnesses tell Seaway News the tractor-trailer flipped over earlier Tuesday and remained in the ditch, on its roof, at noon, adjacent to the westbound lanes. Witnesses said police and tow crews were at the scene trying to determine how to remove the machine from the ditch.

OPP tweeted one lane would be closed while vehicle extraction was completed. The incident took place near County Road 36.

It’s unclear what caused the tractor-trailer to flip over.

A witness told Seaway News traffic on the 401 had been reduced to about 40 km/h as rubber-neckers got a glimpse of the scene.

OPP Const. Joel Doiron said two individuals were in the cab of the transport when it flipped over but were not seriously injured.
