CORNWALL, Ontario – Both the St. Lawrence River Institute and the Social Development Council of Cornwall and Area will be receiving financial support from the Trillium Foundation.
The announcement came on Tuesday afternoon from Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport .
“We are fortunate to live in a province of inclusion, innovation and opportunity,” said Minister Eleanor McMahon. “Through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, our government is making important investments that result in real differences for communities across the province. Today’s announcement will strengthen the social and cultural nature of our diverse communities.”
Both organizations will be splitting $114, 800.
The Social Development Council of Cornwall and Area plan to hire a part-time garden network coordinator to formalize a Community Gardening Network initiative and the St. Lawrence River Institute wants to use their grant to establish a fish health assessment laboratory.
“I think it is incredilbe that we are receiving this grant,” said Karen Cooper, Communications Officer for the St. Lawrence River Institute. “We’ve been working on the river for more than 20 years and this allows us to do more research and very targeted research.”
