United Counties of SD&G hires new Tourism Coordinator

UNITED COUNTIES OF SD&G, Ontario – County Chief Administrative Officer T.J. Simpson, along with Economic Development and Communication Officer Terry Besner, are pleased to announce the hiring of Shauna Baggs to the position of Tourism Coordinator with the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.  The appointment becomes effective October 31st, 2016.  Ms. Baggs has eight years of local municipal experience, most recently working as part of the Economic Development and Communications team with the County.

“I am excited to launch the SDG tourism program and market our extensive array of cultural, sport, recreation and historical assets, services, and events in our community,” said Baggs. “I look forward to working with all community partners and organizations by creating a network of communication that positions our region as a first class destination”.

The immediate goals of the Tourism Coordinator are:

  • Operate and develop programs for SDG own tourism assets – The Historic Jail
  • Work in partnership with key community stakeholders
  • Coordinate the Tourism signage program
  • Develop a comprehensive Tourism Marketing Plan, including social media strategy

County Warden Jamie MacDonald said “Hiring Ms. Baggs represents another important step in our goal of providing the most effective tourism marketing program we possibly can.  This will assist SDG businesses and non-profit organizations reach their full potential by attracting as many visitors as possible to their business or event”.

Besner stated that she is especially eager to tap into Shauna’s inventory of ideas and creative avenues: “Shauna brings a wealth of event management and software skills, including graphic design, as well as an artistic edge with attention to detail.  These talents will no doubt contribute to making SDG a destination of choice for our tourists, and creating “memory-making” experiences for many years to come.”
