CORNWALL, Ontario – The United Way of SDG is looking to score another fundraising goal with the addition of a ball hockey tournament in partnership with Boston Pizza Cornwall.
Fresh off the third annual Zombie 5K Run at McMaze, the non-profit organization is adding more events and programs to its 2015 campaign, and donations are already piling in.
“We’re off to a great start at $105,000, and by having a new event it will help us bring in those extra dollars,” said Lori Greer, executive director at United Way of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry.
UW supports 17 member agencies offering 18 programs throughout Cornwall and the United Counties.
This year, the Glengarry Inter-Agency Group in Dundas added a new youth program, thanks to an unspecified grant from UW.
Sexual Abuse Support Services (SASS) of SDG&A in Cornwall also received support to create an outreach program that will see a caseworker visit clients of the sex abuse prevention agency right in their home community.
“The need is always there for our services, and every year when we get to the application process there are new agencies,” said Greer. “The support for our 2015 campaign is amazing. The communities throughout SDG are so generous. We appreciate it very much.”

Revved up fundraising
The draw for a 2016 Honda TRX 420 with a 5×7 West Brook utility trailer will be held at noon on Monday, September 28 at UW headquarters on Fourth Street West.
Score big for local non-profits
UW is hosting a 5-5 ball hockey tournament ($100 per team) from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. Registration deadline is October 9.

UW will unveil its celebration sleigh of goodiesat noon on Friday, November 13, at the Cornwall Square.

The UW Holiday Wine & Gourmet Tastings gala takes place on Saturday, November 21 at the Nav Centre in Cornwall.
