UPDATE: Long Sault Canada Day festivities postponed – Cornwall going ahead for now

CORNWALL, Ontario – Long Sault’s Canada Day celebrations will be postponed until the weekend, while everything is still a go in Cornwall.

Social media posts suggest the Long Sault events, including a fireworks display, will take place on Saturday thanks to a deluge of rain that is forecast July 1.

Long Sault Firefighters Association president Brian Samis confirmed the decision.

“Everything will be taking place Saturday,” he said.

The association is organizing the Long Sault events.

As for Cornwall’s celebrations, Eric Duncan, a member of the organizing committee, said things will proceed.

“Everything is a go. Fireworks are being set up but we’ll make the final call tonight on them,” he said. “Lamoureux Park is set up and going. There’s a few hundred people here.”
