CORNWALL, Ontario – Police now confirm a woman was allegedly killed by her son.
Cornwall police said the death at a Carleton Street home has been deemed a murder and cops later confirmed the body of a 52-year-old woman was found inside with “visible trauma.”
A 28-year-old man, Jonathan Michaud, the woman’s son, was later taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, said police Tuesday.
He was held for a bail hearing.
Seaway News was told by a source that the woman was stabbed to death, but police are not confirming those details yet.
“There would have been signs of a struggle,” said Cornwall police Const. Dan Cloutier. “But we cannot confirm the cause of death.”
An autopsy has been ordered and the investigation into this matter continues by the Cornwall Community Police Service Criminal Investigation Division.
The home is taped off and there were plenty of officers congregating at the property, said witnesses.
