CORNWALL, Ontario – Police said Thursday afternoon they are not looking for suspects in a case where a man was found with stab wounds on Brookdale Avenue.

A source has indicated to Seaway News the investigation is now focusing on the presumption that the man’s wounds were self-inflicted.

The man, who was later pronounced dead at the Cornwall Community Hospital, was found on the side of Brookdale Avenue on the Ramada Inn property at about 7 p.m. in obvious distress.

“The Cornwall Community Police Service is currently not looking for any suspects in the matter and is treating this as an isolated incident,” said a news release issues Thursday afternoon by the service. “Police do not believe the public’s safety is at risk and will be releasing any additional information as it becomes available.”

The investigation into the incident is continuing, including a post-moterm on the deceased.

Traffic in the area of the traffic circle and Seventh Street has been blocked.

Several police assets, including uniformed officers and members of the criminal investigation division were at the scene.
