CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall police continue to “hold the scene” of a sudden death on Marlborough Street in the city.

Const. Dan Cloutier said police will maintain a presence at the apartment building where a man died Monday, until post-mortem results are released.

Police are not treating the death of the man as criminal in nature, just yet.

The local coroner’s office has been investigating the matter, with the assistance of police, since receiving a call around 2 p.m. Monday.

The deceased male was believed to be in his 60s, police said Monday.

“Any type of sudden death is a coroner’s case,” said police Sgt. Robin McIntosh, adding police could assume control of the investigation in the event the coroner deems it criminal.

Police were at the scene of the apartment complex, located in the area of Victoria Avenue and First Street.

Officers, including forensics experts, could be seen on the property taking photographs and marking evidence.

Social media posts suggest police were also asking questions of neighbours.

The building houses not only residential dwellings but private businesses as well.

Rumours were swirling among neighbours that the man may have been involved in a fight of some kind, but nothing has been confirmed by police.

A neighbour who lives in the building told Seaway News things appeared quiet when they got home late Sunday night, but that changed after they returned from work Monday on a lunch break.

I found out by coming home from lunch and (the) house being all taped off and surrounded,” said the neighbour. “Then at one point I got told that they wanted to ‘limit’ the activity.

I’m really worried on what happened. I just want to know.
