ALEXANDRIA, Ontario – Tuesday police officers in Alexandria seized a gun from a student who brought it to school.
Police said the 13-year-old male student was “intercepted” while still in possession of the weapon.
The school is reportedly École Elda-Rouleau in Alexandria.
The weapon was seized at about 10:30 Tuesday morning, without incident. There were no injuries and police said charges are pending.
OPP Const. Joel Doiron reserved comment on much of the case, citing the fact that the investigation is ongoing.
“The school reacted in a good way. Our goal is the safety of all involved,” he said.
Officials with the French Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario said the incident is now under police control.
“The situation was quickly resolved,” said spokesperson Marie-Claude Dicaire.
She was asked if student or staff at the school were in danger of being shot, and responded with: “We don’t know this information because the situation is under OPP investigation.”
