CORNWALL, Ontario – Customers and employees were rushed out of Walmart on Saturday afternoon after a man told a greeter he had planted a bomb in the store.

Cornwall Community Police Service officers were called to the scene at 1:40 p.m.

CCPS Sgt. Mark Anderson said there is no concern for public safety at the Ninth Street supercentre, which reopened its doors just after 3 p.m.

“We’ve deemed that the bomb threat was unfounded and malicious,” said Anderson.

The case has been turned over to CCPS Const. Tommy Mackay, a member of the force’s criminal investigation unit.

Investigators will be examining security footage.

Anyone with information can call police at (613) 933-5000 ext. 2789.
