CORNWALL, Ontario – The Township of South Glengarry is currently seeking individuals interested in serving as volunteer firefighters within the community.

A firefighter recruitment drive will be held on April 25 at Station #4 (Lancaster) beginning at 8:30 a.m.

“South Glengarry Fire Services responds to fire emergencies within the township; however, our firefighters also participate in fire prevention, public education and fundraising activities,” said fire chief Vic Leroux. “This is both a challenging and rewarding experience. I would encourage all interested individuals who meet the eligibility criteria to apply.”

South Glengarry Fire Services is divided into five fire districts.

Residents from the fire districts of Glen Walter, Martintown, Williamstown, Lancaster and North Lancaster are welcome to apply.

To be considered a candidate for a Volunteer Firefighter position, applicants must live within the district where they are applying and have the capability of responding to emergencies within a reasonable timeframe.

All interested applicants must complete and submit an application form before April 22.

Applicants must be physically and mentally prepared to successfully complete the Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment process. The recruitment process consists of written aptitude, agility and interview testing.

The application form and employment conditions can be downloaded from the South Glengarry website on the Emergency Services page or picked up at the Township office located at 6 Oak Street in Lancaster.
