CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Downtown Business Improvement Area (DBIA) announced on Friday, May 4, 2018, a plan to help entrepreneurs incorporate dynamic businesses and secure a home in the heart of our city.
The campaign is called WIN THIS SPACE and is a popular contest that has been successful in other places in Southern Ontario. WIN THIS SPACE is meant to encourage entrepreneurs to choose a location within the Cornwall DBIA and present a business plan to local judges where one lucky entrepreneur will be awarded with $1,000 a month for an entire year to help with rent or lease expenses.
The DBIA has chosen to start this campaign to help possible entrepreneurs turn great ideas into reality and to help Cornwall kickstart new exciting businesses. All applicants will be accepted until Aug. 3, 2018, after which 20 to 25 candidates will be selected and given six weeks of free training. The training will help them build a business plan which will be provided by the DBIA, with help from the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre.
In the fall, only five of the 25 candidates will be selected who will then present their business ideas to judges representing the DBIA. These judges will choose a winner in a Dragon`s Den style event that will be broadcasted by Cogeco`s Your TV.
The finalists must submit their business plans and supporting documents to the Cornwall DBIA on Oct. 19, 2018. The five finalists will be asked to present their final business idea and answer any questions from the panel of judges.
Any further questions concerning the WIN THIS SPACE campaign should be directed to Todd Lihou, Centretown Coordinator with Heart of the City at 613-933-4004, ext. 224 or todd@cornwallheartofthecity.com.
