Woman charged with assaulting cop

CORNWALL, Ont. – A 21-year-old Cornwall woman has been arrested for assaulting a police officer on Tuesday.

The Cornwall Community Police Service alleges Savannah Cousineau was causing a disturbance at a Second Street East address when investigators took her into custody.

City police further allege the woman assaulted an officer with an open-hand strike to the face during the arrest, and was further found to be in breach of her probation order.

The woman faces charges of cause disturbance, assault police, and a breach of probation for having consumed alcohol and failing to keep the peace.

She was released to appear in a Cornwall courthouse at a later date.
