Man faces impaired driving charges after deadly downtown Toronto crash

TORONTO — Police say a driver is facing multiple impaired driving charges after a multi-vehicle crash in downtown Toronto killed one person and sent seven people to hospital. 

Officers responded to reports of a collision involving three vehicles and two pedestrians in the downtown core shortly before midnight on Friday. 

Police allege a 26-year-old man headed west in a Jeep Grand Cherokee drove through a red light and collided with two northbound vehicles. 

Police say a 26-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed due to the crash, while another was sent to hospital with serious injuries. 

Police say the people in the northbound vehicles were taken to hospital with minor injuries. 

They say the driver of the Jeep is now facing six charges, including impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
