Cornwall Colts forward Grant Cooper will be wearing the C for Canada East at the 2015 World Junior A Hockey Challenge.

CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall Colts star forward Grant Cooper has committed to Clarkson University, beginning in the 2017-18 season.

The 19-year-old Cornwall native is currently enjoying his best season in the CCHL with 15 goals, 17 assists and 32 points – in only 24 games so far.

Earlier this season, Cooper was named Team Canada East Captain for the World Junior A All Star Challenge.

“Clarkson is nice and close to home so family and friends can come to visit,” said an elated Cooper after Colts practice on Wednesday (Jan. 13). “The school has great sports facilities and an even better hockey atmosphere.

“I’ll be back for my final CCHL season next year. It’s definitely a weight lifted (having committed to Clarkson) because I can focus on playing hockey.”

Cooper will join former Colts Captain Marly Quince, who is currently in his rookie season with the Golden Knights.

Overall Cooper has 93 points in 121 games over four seasons with the Colts.  Cooper also has 13 points in 23 playoff games and led the Colts with two goals in three games in last spring’s Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian Championship that was held in Cornwall.

Cooper and the Colts return to the Ed Lumley Arena Thursday night (Jan. 13) against the Ottawa Junior Senators.

Children attending next Thursday’s game (Jan. 21) will get a coupon for a Mac’s Convenience Froster Drink courtesy Froster Active Kids Program. Following the game, Cooper will be signing autographs and meeting with fans. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
