CORNWALL, Ontario – Stanley Cup champs and hockey Hall of Famers, led by one of Canada’s most famous dads, will be returning to the Ed Lumley Arena for charity on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The NHL Alumni Tour hits the ice at the civic complex at 6 p.m. as hockey legends square off against the Community Police Service ‘All Star Enforcers’ in support of Special Olympics Ontario and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The benefit match will also feature a skills competition and a series of on-ice practical jokes.
“It’s great fun and entertainment for a good cause,” said Cornwall police staff sergeant Brian Snyder, the event’s local organizer.
The game typically raises $5,000.
“That money stays local, and supports our local Special Olympics athletes,” said Snyder.
The NHL Alumni lineup has yet to be revealed, but organizers tell Seaway News that Walter Gretzky will be in attendance.
Synder said the event draws between 1,500-2,000 fans, many taking advantage of the opportunity to shake hands with a sports hero.
Tickets are $22 for adults and $16 for seniors/children 15 and under. Admission is free for children under three. Door open at 5 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at the civic complex, by calling 1-877-431-0685 or visiting www.benefithockey.com.
