Second person arrested this week for Ontario Works fraud

CORNWALL, Ontario – Melissa Wattie, 38, of Cornwall was arrested on March 22, 2018 and charged with Fraud over $5,000.

It is alleged the woman failed to declare changes in her living arrangements to the Ontario Works Resource Centre between July, 2014 and September, 2016 which resulted in an overpayment of $11,101.00. On March 22nd, 2018 the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on April 26th, 2018.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Stepha Franklin, 28, of Cornwall was arrested on March 22nd, 2018 and charged with breach of recognizance for failing to reside at a certain address and being outside his residence after curfew. He was also charged with breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on March 10th, 2018 police attended a Pitt Street business on an unrelated matter and found the man in breach of his conditions. During the investigation it was learned the male was allegedly not residing at a residence indicated in his conditions. On March 22nd, 2018 the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

ASSAULT, OVERCOME RESISTANCE

Cornwall, ON – A 26-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 22nd, 2018 and charged with assault and overcome resistance (choking). It is alleged between January, 2014 and March, 2018 the man assaulted his wife on multiple occasions. It is also alleged the man assaulted his step-son and choked his wife. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On March 22nd, 2018, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victims in the matter.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Eric Pelletier, 32, of Chateauguay was arrested on March 22nd, 2018 and charged with breach of recognizance for not remaining in Alberta and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on March 22nd, 2018 the man was observed in breach of his conditions and police were contacted to investigate. On March 22nd, 2018 the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

ASSAULT CAUSE BODILY HARM

Cornwall, ON – A 40-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on March 22nd, 2018 and charged with assault cause bodily harm. It is alleged on March 21st, 2018 the man assaulted his girlfriend causing an injury that required medical attention. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On March 22nd, 2018 he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Jason Wyngaert, 37, of Moose Creek was arrested on March 22nd, 2018 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man breached his conditional sentence order and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 22nd, 2018 a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service assumed custody of the man from OPP as they had the man in custody on the strength of Cornwall’s warrant. The warrant was executed and the man was held for a bail hearing.
